Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for the completion of month end closing procedures including monthly journal entries, consolidation of financial statements, analyzing financials, and communicating results with management.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and the broader Finance community to recognize efficiencies and provide process enhancement recommendations and lead implementation.

Key Tasks:

  • Experience with IFRS and GAAP, understanding differences and taking the concepts and applying them.
  • Works closely with the External reporting group, preparing monthly Corporate financial schedules and commentary as required.
  • Responsible for month end closing procedures including monthly journal entries, preparation of financial statements, analyzing financials, and communicating results with management.
  • Implement and execute new accounting processes, continuously reviewing and evolving them, looking for opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Acts as a Change Agent, facilitating the execution of process improvement training sessions as required.
  • Interface with other departments as needed to ensure all journal entries and reconciliations are completed timely and with proper supporting detail.
  • Research discrepancies and communicate with other departments as needed to resolve issues.
  • In depth account analysis and reporting.
  • Provide financial and business analysis to support key strategic objectives.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, strategic plans, quarterly presentations, and monthly business narratives as required.
  • Act as liaison with international business units to assist with financial reporting and communications on accounting policy and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Strong computer (MS Office-Excel) skills.
  • PeopleSoft and OnBase experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the retail agriculture business is considered an asset.
