The Project Accountant will work closely with construction and engineering leaders, construction managers in the field and contractors/subcontractors to establish and communicate cost and time line reporting expectations in order to ensure necessary accounting processes and information are in place for the entire project life-cycle.

Key Tasks:

  • Responsible for cost analysis and reporting on construction projects.
  • Create and implement procedures improving controls and reporting.
  • Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with controls, requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
  • Review all incoming invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and coding.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of invoices and budgets for major projects.
  • Ensure that invoices are in accordance with contract requirements and documents;
  • Interact with vendors regarding invoice issues.
  • Work with construction managers to update and analyze project budgets for accuracy.
  • Provide support, assist and guide project team with cost management.
  • Respond to special requests for accounting/financial information internally and externally related to construction projects.
  • Work with construction managers to compare work completed and spend to date against budget forecasts and schedule.
  • Monitor job progress and potential overruns against purchase orders or budgets.
  • Prepare and analyze job cost reports and update quarterly and year-end schedules.
  • Update financial and operational reporting and budget preparation for construction projects.
  • Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Attend project-related meetings and collaborate with the project team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to prioritize and work with competing deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point, etc.).


  • BA/BS in Accounting/Finance or related.
  • 5 or more years of practical experience in similar or equivalent position.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting and long range planning.
  • Experience with review and reconciliation of vendor invoices for construction projects.
  • Experience creating and implementing reporting procedures for construction projects.
  • Job Cost experience in construction accounting, tracking invoices, budgets and contract management.
  • Experience in developing regular reports for senior management tracking construction project costs and budgets.
  • Construction industry experience highly desired.
