Loveland Products Inc., a division of CPS, offers a complete line of high performance crop input products including seed treatment, plant performance, nutritionals, adjuvant and crop protection products. Loveland Products brings new, unique chemistries to the marketplace to provide innovative solutions to problems across the agricultural and professional non-crop industries.

Key Tasks:

Position Summary:

As a member of the Maintenance & Engineering team, the Plant Engineer position focuses on evaluating equipment and developing improved process controls for manufacturing liquid nutrients and related products. The position works with all plant disciplines to continuously improve safety, reliability, efficiency and costs. Daily work will include active engagement in site safety performance, environmental stewardship, waste minimization, and new product development.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in engineering leadership as well as the ability to develop standard engineering practices and provide detailed documentation upon work completion. This person will be site technical lead and provide project management activities, as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Continuously evaluate equipment, process operations and controls to ensure personnel safety, environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with all disciplines, troubleshooting problems, to ensure plant processes are aligned to provide maximum output levels and efficiencies.
  • Optimize production by conducting tests, monitoring performances, and compiling de-bottleneck studies to identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Design plant and equipment configurations to be readily adapted to suit the product ranges and the process technologies involved, taking safety, environmental and economic aspects into account.
  • Provide control system designs, specifications, programming, system testing, and start-up assistance, as required.
  • Maintain engineering records including creating and modifying Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, and supporting development of operations and maintenance standard operating procedures.
  • Install and commission new equipment, including monitoring developments and troubleshooting as well as managing contractors and documenting process changes and additions.
  • Support new product development from trial through to commercialization and improving production lines.
  • Keep abreast of current engineering trends, practices, developments, and regulatory changes, which could impact processes and products.
  • Complete special projects as needed and any other tasks assigned to support business continuity and growth.

The Ideal Candidate

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, our ideal candidate must be committed to achieving superior results with integrity and sustaining our safe and positive work environment while having the ability to embrace working side by side others in a diverse culture.

Skills:

  • A specific background or knowledge of fertilizer technology is also desired.
  • Strong analytical skills, skilled in application of statistics and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Works well independently and in a team context with excellent time management and organization skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical / Agricultural Engineering, preferred.
  • At least two years experience in evaluating proceses, controls and equipment in a safety-first environment required.
  • Logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat or Toshiba is highly desired.
  • Experience with 2D CAD programs such as AutoCAD is desired.
