Loveland Products Inc., a division of CPS, offers a complete line of high performance crop input products including seed treatment, plant performance, nutritionals, adjuvant and crop protection products. Loveland Products brings new, unique chemistries to the marketplace to provide innovative solutions to problems across the agricultural and professional non-crop industries.

Plant Information:

Located in Billings, MT, this Loveland Products, Inc. (LPI) plant has undergone over $15 million in upgrades and expansions in the last 4 years. The plant formulates, packages and distributes more than 10 million gallons of liquid herbicide products annually.

The plant has separate manufacturing facilities, bulk storage, packaging lines, warehouses, and maintenance units. The QC lab is current and has excellent analytical equipment. The facility has rail spurs for efficient unloading of raw materials and loading of finished product. The site has multiple loading docks for receiving and shipping via truck. The plant also has off-site management responsibilities for a near-by Crop Production Services (CPS) staging warehouse.

Position Summary:

As a member of the Maintenance & Engineering team, this position focuses on evaluating equipment and developing improved process controls for manufacturing liquid nutrients and related products. The position works with all plant disciplines to continuously improve safety, reliability, efficiency and costs. Daily work will include active engagement in site safety performance, environmental stewardship, waste minimization, and new product development.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in engineering leadership as well as the ability to develop standard engineering practices and provide detailed documentation upon work completion. This person will be site technical lead and provide project management activities, as required.

Key Tasks:

  • Work closely with all disciplines, troubleshooting problems, to ensure plant processes are aligned to provide maximum output levels and efficiencies.
  • Continuously evaluate equipment, process operations and controls to ensure personnel safety, environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
  • Optimize production by conducting tests, monitoring performances, and compiling de-bottleneck studies to identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Design plant and equipment configurations to be readily adapted to suit the product ranges and the process technologies involved, taking safety, environmental and economic aspects into account.
  • Provide control system designs, specifications, programming, system testing, and start-up assistance, as required.
  • Maintain engineering records including creating and modifying Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, and supporting development of operations and maintenance standard operating procedures.
  • Install and commission new equipment, including monitoring developments and troubleshooting as well as managing contractors and documenting process changes and additions.
  • Support new product development from trial through to commercialization and improving production lines.
  • Keep abreast of current engineering trends, practices, developments, and regulatory changes, which could impact processes and products.
  • Complete special projects as needed and any other tasks assigned to support business continuity and growth.

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
  • 2+ years chemical manufacturing experience required
  • Ability to work in a Safety First, drug free workplace. If you can't pass a drug screen and random tests, don't bother to apply.
  • Logic and programming with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat or Toshiba is highly desired.
  • Experience with 2D CAD programs such as AutoCAD or Solid Works is desired.
  • A specific background or knowledge chemical processing.
  • Strong analytical skills, skilled in application of statistics and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Works well independently and in a team context with excellent time management and organization skills.
