Reporting to the Director, Operations Accounting, this role will be responsible for the completion, supervision and oversight of several key accounting activities within the Retail Finance operations accounting department such as accounting/analysis of vendor prepay, customer rebates, sales accruals, sales commissions, and in-transit inventory.

Key Tasks:

  • Provide leadership to a dynamic group of accountants including coaching, mentoring, goal setting and review, performance management, recruitment, and team building.
  • Ensuring team executes on operations accounting department plan by prioritizing work, projects and resources; assist with preparation of the annual budget for area of responsibility.
  • Complex accounting and analysis related to vendor prepay, customer rebates, sales accruals, sales commissions, and in-transit inventory.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders on key operations accounting issues, processes and developing relationships internally and externally such as:
    • Internal: Regional Finance, Operations Accounting, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable IT, Financial Accounting, Field Personnel at the Region, Division and Branch Levels.
    • External: Auditors, Suppliers, Vendors and IT consultants.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure information flow is efficient and ensure operations accounting policies, processes and procedures are developed and adhered to.
  • Influence changes, process improvement and adherence to operations accounting policies and procedures with internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the monthly review of account reconciliations and support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Challenge the status quo and think outside the box to improve current operations accounting processes.
  • Some travel to our field locations may be required to gain an understanding of the Retail business.
  • Participate in various projects as required .
  • Other duties as required.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance required; accounting or finance designation would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant business experience with a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
  • PeopleSoft experience and knowledge of the retail agriculture business would be considered an asset.
