The Supervisor, Mine Engineering will report to the Mine Superintendent. This role is an integral part of the mining operations for 3 current mine locations and oversees a team of 5 individuals. The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for managing fixed costs as well as executing capital projects within budget, as well as leading the 3rd party contractors as these are Contract mines.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensure accuracy of execution of the approved mine plan with the mining contractor
  • Monitor and interact with contractor, Environmental Department, Ore Quality Department concerning daily/monthly/yearly pit production progress
  • Monitor and interact with contractor regarding pit slope stability and monitoring
  • Recognize and implement cost-saving methods to reduce mining costs
  • Gather and track production rates and costs. Reconcile these rates and costs to the defined scheduled
  • Monitor and modify pit design to safely maximize ore recovery
  • Work closely with Mine Geologist to modify pit design through areas of faulting and unstable ground
  • Assist engineering technician in monthly pit/stockpile re-measures, producing monthly as-mined grade and tonnage reports and preparing annual operations reports
  • Prepare annual mine plan including scheduled volumes, tons, and grades
  • Create layback designs, haul-road designs, dump designs, and other required designs as needed for daily mining
  • Monitor placement of waste in scheduled locations
  • Minimize costs and environmental impacts in all design and production work
  • Produce presentation quality maps and documents for federal and state agencies
  • Set up, schedule and oversee outside consultants required for mine safety, pit/dump stability, mine design and ore recovery
  • Supply required information to outside consultants, then review and possibly implement consultant recommendations
  • Assist mining staff as needed for special projects

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, engineering programs, and SAP a plus
  • Troubleshooting and analytical ability
  • Written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Budgeting


  • A Bachelors’ Degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent engineering degree is required
  • A minimum of 7 years of mining experience
  • Strong Leadership Skills
  • Strong communication, coaching, team-building skills
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task in a high paced environment, prioritize and develop sound timelines
  • Be able to identify hazards and be highly conscious towards Agrium Safety Culture
  • Knowledge of regulatory laws
  • Strong attention to details for creating and maintaining mine plans
