The Mechanical Engineer at Agrium, Conda Phosphate Operations will report directly to Engineering Manager. The Mechanical Engineer is a critical role in developing and executing engineering and capital strategies for the site to maintain safe, reliable, efficient operations. The role plays an integral part in the success of the facility by supporting initiatives that allow us to meet safety, environmental, financial and capacity utilization targets. This Engineer position engages in a broad range of activities across the organization that support Wholesale’s vision and strategy including, identifying, designing and executing key projects and initiatives; ensuring production areas have engineering support for equipment and procedural troubleshooting, de-bottlenecking, process performance measurement, and technical expertise for incident investigations; improving the process through development of alternative operating or processing methods, improvement of product quality, and identification and implementation of cost reduction opportunities; improving process safety through development of safe operating limits and process safety information; actively participates in process hazard analysis, and elimination of process safety deficiencies; ensuring safe and efficient work practices, and adhere to process safety, personal safety, and environmental policies.

Key Tasks:

  • Project Management.
  • Produce designs when required.
  • Project Scheduling.
  • Build and Review Cost Estimates and Budgets.
  • Bid Review and Selection.
  • Contract Review and Approval.
  • Contractor Oversight.
  • Quality Control.
  • Contractor adherence to site Safety Policies.
  • Management of Change processes.

TheIdeal Candidate

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, our ideal candidate must be committed to achieving superior results with integrity and sustaining our safe and positive work environment while having the ability to embrace working side by side others in a diverse culture.


  • Be a self-starter, able to work with little direct oversight.
  • Work well in a fast-paced “team” environment.
  • Supervisory skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Have excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Products.
  • Possess problem solving, trouble-shooting, and diagnostic skills.


  • Possess a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of five years’ experience
  • Experience to include the following: project management (projects over $5 million a plus), design, project scheduling, cost estimates and budgets, contract review and selection, and contractor oversight
  • Experience with economic analysis and justifications
  • Corrosion and materials selection experience
  • Petro-Chem experience
  • Understand and have experience with piping and vessel codes (API, ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII)
  • Experience working in a plant environment
  • Legally able to work in the United States

The following are preferred but not required:

  • Experience conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Experience with economic analysis and justifications.
  • Supervisory skille and experience.
  • SAP experience.
  • PE in Mechanical Engineer a plus.
  • PMP Certification.
