Technician III – Saskatoon, SK

This position is responsible for designated transformation and gene manipulation technology and for providing project leadership to technicians and seasonal staff.

Key Tasks:

  • Coordinates the activities of technical and seasonal staff assigned to the research program.
  • Initiates and coordinates molecular biology experiments or designed research programs, within the field of biotechnology.
  • Defines project test methods and parameters as outlined in the program, regulating test conditions and input for optimal results.
  • Liaises with product suppliers that provide input to the research program.
  • Gathers, compiles and performs analysis on test results.
  • Inspects program experiments, records, notes and log books maintained by staff assigned to the research program.
  • Maintains a log book of activities.
  • Provides leadership to seasonal staff in designated research programs.
  • Assists in the recruitment of seasonal staff to meet program requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

The Ideal Candidate

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, our ideal candidate must be committed to achieving superior results with integrity and sustaining our safe and positive work environment while having the ability to embrace working side by side others in a diverse culture.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years related experience, including specific experience in molecular biology.
  • Requires a valid class 5 driver's license.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in most methods and techniques within the field of genetic engineering, plant transformation, computers and recording data.
  • Demonstrated lab management skills and abilities
  • Knowledge of lab inputs and machine outputs.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of molecular lab equipment operation
  • Analytical, self-motivated, logical, perceptive, detail oriented, leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills.

Education:

  • University Degree (B.Sc. minimum) or preferable M.Sc. in Biology, Plant Sciences or Molecular Biology.

Salary Range: Level 3
