Technician II – Saskatoon, SK

Reporting to the Assistant Breeder - Responsible for specific activities on designated research programs and participation on projects as assigned.

Key Tasks:

  • Demonstrates leadership, oversees safety and directs the activities of seasonal staff assigned to the research program.
  • Trains and directs development of staff; supervises and manages performance with timely and appropriate feedback and review.
  • Identifies, arranges for and, if necessary, modifies equipment for optimum performance under the conditions of the experiment protocol; monitors the operation of existing equipment and makes alterations and adjustments to maintain or enhance performance; ensures that all equipment and machinery is in good, safe working order; operates a wide range of equipment and machinery.
  • Determines and purchases required program inputs; liaises with product suppliers that provide inputs to the program.
  • Conducts the field testing of designated research material using defined methods that will ensure accuracy and optimize results under the experimental protocol.
  • Identifies anticipated and unexpected factors which may influence specific research experiments and records data appropriate to the experimental protocol.
  • Inspects program experiments, records, notes and logbooks maintained by assigned program staff; maintains a detailed logbook of activities.
  • Gathers, summarizes and inputs experimental data; monitors results and checks for accuracy of information.
  • Performs other program related duties.

  • Excellent co-ordinating and communication skills to deal with a number of staff.
  • Solid organizational skills to handle a wide range of research projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with pesticides and pesticide applicators.
  • Computer competence including MS Office.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Teamwork and co-operation.

  • Listening and responding.
  • Willingness to travel.


  • Diploma in Agriculture or Biological Science
  • Supplemented with one (1) year of relevant experience including experience with small plot research
