Technician III – Saskatoon, SK

Key Tasks:

  • Demonstrates leadership, oversees safety and directs the activities of seasonal staff assigned to the research program.
  • Trains and directs the development of staff; supervises and manages performance with timely and appropriate feedback and review.
  • Works with plant breeders to plan and conduct the field testing of designated research material using defined methods that will ensure accuracy and optimize results under experimental protocol.
  • Conducts field nurseries on experimental lines including tasks such as: trial design and layout, planting, pesticide application, note taking, harvest and quality testing.
  • Produces pure seed of designated lines.
  • Assists in conducting field tours and provides information on research programs.
  • Maintains a detailed logbook of activities.
  • Gathers, summarizes and inputs experimental data.
  • Monitors results and checks for accuracy of information.
  • Assist in the recruitment of seasonal staff.

The Ideal Candidate

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, our ideal candidate must be committed to achieving superior results with integrity and sustaining our safe and positive work environment while having the ability to embrace working side by side others in a diverse culture.


  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Diploma in Agriculture, B.Sc. in Agriculture an asset.
  • Eligible for membership in the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.
  • Excellent coordinating and communication skills to deal with a number of staff.
  • Solid organizational skills to handle and wide range of research projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with experimental design, data and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of farm equipment and machine operation. Ability to repair equipment is desired.
  • Computer experience in the use of databases and spreadsheets.
  • Concern for order; expertise; flexibility; teamwork and cooperation; achievement orientation/self-motivation; attention to detail; supervisory skills; willingness to travel.
  • Class 1 driver's license or willingness to obtain "G" endorsement is an asset.

Salary Range: Level 3
