Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Journeyman Welder in the Fort Saskatchewan Maintenance department is responsible for the day-to-day safe and efficient execution of the department’s preventative, routine, and immediate maintenance requirements. The Journeyman Welder works alongside and in cooperation with other maintenance trades, operations, and technical groups. This position has the primary responsibility for the maintenance and repair of utility and process piping as well as fixed equipment such as drums, towers and exchangers.

Key Tasks:

  • Assisting with the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of piping components and systems, as well as fixed equipment such as tanks , towers exchangers.
  • Planning and Supervising metals related outage and maintenance work to meet business needs.
  • Implementing the Preventive Maintenance program for piping and fixed equipment systems such as: steam traps, check valves, manual isolation valves, tanks, towers and exchangers.
  • Utilizing SAP for daily maintenance activities.
  • Active participation in team safety meetings, audits and Job Task Observation of peers.

TheIdeal Candidate

Outside of the skills and necessary qualifications, our ideal candidate must be committed to achieving superior results with integrity and sustaining our safe and positive work environment while having the ability to embrace working side by side others in a diverse culture.


  • Extensive knowledge of piping systems, materials and codes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with maintenance of fixed equipment such as exchanger’s, drums and towers.


  • High School Diploma.
  • Inter-provincial Journeyman Welder Certificate.
  • Minimum of 7 years welding experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in an industrial setting.
